Saturday COVID-19 Update: 158 New Cases In Catawba County, Highest Single-Day Case Total Reported By State Officials

158 new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed today (December 5) by Catawba County Public Health, raising the total to 7,804, with 103 deaths. Hospitalizations increased to a pandemic-high of 75 today in Catawba County. The 51st coronavirus-associated death was reported Friday (December 4) by Caldwell County health officials. The patient was between the ages of 50 and 64, was hospitalized, and was reported to have underlying health conditions. 77 new COVID-19 cases were reported Friday in Caldwell County, increasing the total to 3,801. There were 27 Caldwell County residents hospitalized.

The Burke County Health Department reports a total of 4,577 COVID-19 cases today, an increase of 96 from Fridays report. There have been 71 coronavirus-related deaths in Burke County. The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) reports that there have been 1,754 cases of COVID-19, 54 more than the last update. There have been 19 coronavirus-related deaths in Alexander County. NCDHHS reports 6,018 new cases of COVID-19 statewide today, the highest single-day total of the pandemic.
