S.C. Residents Arrested in Catawba County on Felony Drug Charges

31-year-old John Ethan Cody Carnes and 30-year-old Sheila Nicole Black, both from Lancaster, South Carolina, were arrested by Catawba County Sheriff’s Officers Monday (March 11). They were each charged with trafficking in opium or heroin by possession & transportation, possession of a schedule IV controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Carnes was also charged with possession of a stolen firearm, carrying a concealed firearm, possession with intent to sell or deliver methamphetamine, and felony maintaining a vehicle for the manufacture, sale, or delivery of a controlled substance. In addition, Black was charged with possession of a schedule II controlled substance.

They were taken into custody after Sheriff’s Officers stopped a vehicle for traffic violations as it traveled along U.S. Highway 70 East near the Town of Catawba. Investigators found and seized a trafficking amount of fentanyl, along with quantities of meth, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, two firearms, and U.S. currency. One of the firearms was reported stolen from Greensboro.

Carnes and Black were both placed in the Catawba County Detention Facility. Bond for Carnes was set at $300,000, secured, while Black was given a $100,000 secured bond. At last report, both suspects remained in jail. First appearances in District Court were scheduled today (March 13) in Newton.
