Robbery Of Area Food Lion Under Investigation

The robbery of a grocery store is under investigation. Shortly before 7:30 a.m. Wednesday (January 3), the Statesville Police Department responded to a call regarding a robbery at the Food Lion at 1650 East Broad Street. Upon arrival, officers secured the scene and contacted the Criminal Investigations Division.

Preliminary information gathered during the investigation indicates that three unidentified males, all wearing hoodies and masks, forcibly confronted a store clerk and proceeded to strong-arm their way into the cash register. The exact amount of cash taken during the robbery was unknown and was under investigation.

Officers conducted interviews with store employees and reviewed security camera footage. It was determined that the suspects had left the scene in two separate vehicles. One of these vehicles was identified through footage from a flock camera on Opal Street. As of late Wednesday, investigators were awaiting the issuance of a search warrant to conduct a thorough search of the residence and the suspect vehicle.

The Statesville Police Department was working in collaboration with the Mooresville Police Department and the Troutman Police Department, who also responded to the scene, to coordinate efforts and follow up on any potential connections to similar events in their jurisdictions.
