According to NC Firefighters, five people, including children, were injured in a head-on collision this morning (July 2) on Old Shelby Road in Long View.

The crash happened near 1967 Old Shelby Road and involved two vehicles that sustained heavy damage. Emergency responders reported that multiple victims, including children, were initially unresponsive, with one person trapped inside a vehicle.

According to emergency reports, two patients were airlifted to regional trauma centers by medical helicopter, including one child. Three other injured patients were transported by ground ambulance.

The Long View Fire Department, Catawba County EMS, Icard Township Fire Department, and the Hickory Fire Department responded to the scene. Icard and Hickory firefighters assisted in establishing a landing zone for the medical helicopters.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and no additional information on the victims’ conditions has been released.
