Regional Traffic-Safety Study Seeks Iredell County Input

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. (WHKY) — Drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians can now identify dangerous roads and intersections through a new regional survey.

The Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization launched its “Safety Is No Accident” study to help build a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan. The planning area includes 24 member jurisdictions in Iredell, Mecklenburg and Union counties.

The Phase I survey is open through October 25 at SafeStreetsForUs.com. Participants can describe traffic-safety concerns and experiences. CRTPO says the responses will help identify priorities for reducing serious injuries and deaths.

Project implementation planner Will Snyder said community knowledge is essential to understanding where and why serious crashes occur. The study is funded through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All program. The survey is an information-gathering step; no specific road projects were approved in the announcement.
