Regional Economic Plan To Address Housing, Jobs And Infrastructure

HICKORY, N.C. (WHKY) — A regional economic strategy is being updated for 2026–2031. The Western Piedmont Council of Governments is coordinating the effort, according to a September 12 report. The committee includes representatives from Burke, Caldwell, Catawba and Alexander counties. Its work will address housing, workforce needs, infrastructure and business development. Stakeholder interviews and a regional survey are planned. The strategy supports coordinated investments and eligibility for federal economic-development funding.
