Public Hearing Set On $16.9 Million Burke County Manufacturing Project
MORGANTON, N.C. (WHKY) — Burke County Commissioners will hold a public hearing Monday, September 21, on a proposed economic development incentive for a manufacturing project expected to bring approximately 37 new jobs to the county.
The project, identified publicly under the code name “Project Ice Bear,” involves a manufacturing company proposing to establish a new facility in Burke County. According to the county’s public hearing notice, the company would invest approximately $16.9 million over three years.
County officials estimate the 37 jobs would pay an average annual salary of $64,716.
The proposed incentive would reimburse the company an amount not to exceed 40 percent of qualifying new ad valorem tax revenue generated by the project over no more than three years. Burke County estimates the total cash grant would be approximately $87,270 over that period, although the actual amount could vary based on tax revenue generated.
The hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, September 21, in the County Board Room at the Burke County Services Building, 110 North Green Street, Entrance E, in Morganton. Commissioners would consider the incentive subject to public input.
