MORGANTON, N.C. (WHKY) — Burke County commissioners will hold a public hearing Thursday evening on a proposed economic-development incentive for a manufacturing project expected to create approximately 64 jobs.

The project, identified as Project Arlington, involves a manufacturing company proposing to acquire a former textile facility and establish a new manufacturing operation in Burke County.

The company is proposing an investment of approximately $7 million over five years, not including the cost of acquiring the property.

County officials say the project is expected to create approximately 64 jobs with an average annual salary of $58,984. That figure is above Burke County’s median annual wage of $49,020.

Under the proposed incentive agreement, Burke County would reimburse the company an amount not exceeding 50 percent of the new property-tax revenue generated by the project for up to four years.

The total estimated county incentive would be approximately $61,050 over the four-year period. The final amount could vary depending on the actual taxable investment and revenue generated.

The public hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, August 6, in the County Board Room at the Burke County Services Building, located at 110 North Green Street, Entrance E, in Morganton.
