Primary Election Today, Coverage Of Returns On WHKY

North Carolina’s Primary Election is today (March 5) and there are contested races in all of the Hickory Metro and surrounding counties. WHKY will be covering several of those contests on all of our platforms.

In the Catawba County Board of Commissioners race, there are three Republican candidates running for two spots in the November election. There are five Republican candidates running for three spots in the November contest for the Catawba County Schools Board of Education. Two candidates are vying for one spot in the Republican race for the Newton-Conover Schools Board of Education in the Newton District.

In the race for U.S. House of Representatives in District 10, there are five Republican candidates running for one position in November’s election. Longtime incumbent Patrick McHenry is not running for re-election. That District is also in Iredell and Lincoln Counties. Catawba County’s ballot also includes contested Republican races for the North Carolina State Senate in District 45 and Register of Deeds.

In Alexander County, we’ll have coverage of the Republican Board of Commissioners, U.S. House of Representatives District 5 and District Attorney’s race in the 32nd District, which also covers Iredell County. Burke County races we’ll be covering include Republican races for Board of Commissioners, Board of Education, and U.S. House of Representatives District 14. We’ll also have coverage of the Democrat Primary for U.S. House District 14.

Caldwell County Republican races include Board of Commissioners, Board of Education, North Carolina State Senate, and U.S. House District 5. In Lincoln County we’ll have coverage of the Board of Commissioners race. In Iredell County we’ll cover the North Carolina House of Representatives District 84. Statewide races we’ll have results from include Governor, Lt. Governor and Attorney General.

The polls were scheduled to open at 6:30 a.m. and close at 7:30 p.m. We’ll have coverage of returns after the polls close on WHKY Radio, on our website, whky.com, and on WHKY News which can be seen on our YouTube channel, on the WHKY Facebook page and our website.
