U.N.C. Health Blue Ridge announced today (January 25) that Kathy C. Bailey, President & C.E.O., will retire in June 2024 after nearly 19 years with the organization.
Ms. Bailey was influential in opening a new $38-million cancer center and building a new $118-million patient bed tower, which will house a new I.C.U., emergency department, and rooftop helipad. Her health care career spans 45 years in North Carolina, during which she was selected as one of the Great 100 Excellent Nurses in North Carolina and was awarded The Order of the Long Leaf Pine.
Ms. Bailey has served as a board member of the American Red Cross Catawba Valley Chapter and Burke Development Incorporated. She was past Board Chair for the Burke County Chamber of Commerce and has served as vice chairman of the Healthy Burke Partnership Governing Board. Ms. Bailey has partnered U.N.C. Health Blue Ridge with the North Carolina School of Science & Math and has provided counsel and perspective to Greenway Public Transportation, Burke County Public Schools, the Burke County Health Department, and Western Piedmont Community College.
