Possible Flooding & High Winds Lead to Remote Learning Day Tuesday for Several Area School Systems

Due to the current high wind advisories and the flood watch in affect for the area tonight (January 8) and throughout the day tomorrow, Catawba County Schools, Burke County Schools, Alexander County Schools, Hickory Public Schools, and Newton-Conover City Schools will transition to a remote learning day on Tuesday, January 9. Caldwell County Schools will be closed for students Tuesday. It will be an optional planning day.

The decision was made as predicted strong winds and potential flooding raise safety concerns for the operation of school buses. Additionally, the likelihood of power outages poses further challenges to the normal functioning of area schools.
