Police Report Arrest Of Suspect Following Chase, Crash

48-year-old Justin Carnell Scott of Willowtree Church Avenue in Morganton was arrested Saturday (December 23) by Morganton Public Safety Officers. He’s charged with felony flee to elude arrest with a motor vehicle. Scott is additionally charged with reckless driving to endanger, speeding, driving while license revoked, expired registration card or tag, failure to maintain lane control, and expired or no inspection.

Early Saturday morning, an Officer with the Morganton Department of Public Safety discovered a vehicle traveling on North Green Street with an expired registration plate. The Officer attempted to conduct a vehicle stop, however the driver reportedly began to flee.

As the driver approached NC 181, he attempted to make a left turn onto Stephens Road and reportedly lost control. This resulted in the vehicle veering off the roadway and striking a telephone pole. The driver was identified as Justin Carnell Scott and taken into custody.
The vehicle that Scott was driving was seized. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol assisted with conducting a traffic crash investigation.

Scott was brought to the Burke County Jail under a $10,000 secured bond. He was not listed as an inmate as of earlier today (December 26). A District Court date is scheduled for January 5.
