Boone Police have released the identity of the victim in a fatal shooting that occurred Friday (August 11). He is 38-year-old Justin Wayne Newberry of Boone.

Officers responded to the incident at about 2:30 p.m. in the area of Blowing Rock Road. Officers found Mr. Newberry suffering from a gunshot wound, lying in the highway at the intersection of Winkler’s Creek Road. Mr. Newberry was transported to Watauga Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.

Police say the shooting was an isolated incident that stemmed from an apparent road rage occurrence. The shooter is cooperating with Investigators.
