Police Investigate Shooting in S.E. Hickory

Hickory Police are investigating a shooting that occurred late last night (December 8). At about 11:13 p.m. Wednesday, Officers responded to the 800 block of 1st Street S.E. after they took a 9-1-1 call stating that a male had been shot. Upon arrival, Officers found 26-year-old Michael Emmanuel Tucker, Jr. sitting in the driver’s seat of a 2008 Honda Accord suffering from a gunshot wound.

Catawba County E.M.S. responded and transported Tucker to Catawba Valley Medical Center where he was initially treated. He was then transferred to Carolina’s Medical Center in Charlotte by helicopter. At last report, Mr. Tucker was listed in critical condition.

During the initial investigation, Officers learned that Tucker had left his apartment to go to a nearby convenience store. Police say it appears that the suspects fired multiple shots into Tucker’s vehicle from the roadway.

No suspect information is currently available. Anyone with information regarding the incident should call Hickory Police at 828-328-5551 or contact Investigator Tammy Johnson directly at 828-261-2619 or tjohnson@hickorync.gov.
