Police Find Suspect in Armed Robbery & Assault Case, Deceased

The Hickory Police Department is conducting a death investigation after a wanted suspect was found deceased Thursday afternoon (June 27). The deceased is 34-year-old Dallas Loyd Gragg.

At approximately 3:20 p.m. Thursday, Officers responded to an address on 9th Avenue Drive N.E. in Hickory in an attempt to locate Mr. Gragg, He was wanted on felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious bodily injury, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and possession of a firearm by felon. The charges stem from a June 20 shooting and armed robbery on Valley Arbors Drive in Hickory.

Thursday, Officers watching the 9th Avenue Drive N.E. address saw Gragg exit and then re-enter the residence. Officers approached and attempted to establish communication with Gragg and take him into custody. They were unable to make contact with Gragg; however, several other occupants exited the residence and told Officers that Gragg was still in the house.

After multiple failed attempts to communicate with Gragg, Officers entered the residence and found Gragg deceased in the attic. Investigators are awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
