At about 12:15 p.m. today (July 27), the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to an airplane crash in Catawba County at a residence on South Olivers Crossroads.

A single-engine plane was attempting to land at Laneys Airport in Catawba County when it overshot the runway, attempted to take off again, struck several trees, and crashed into the backyard of the residence. The pilot and a passenger were transported by Catawba County E.M.S. to Lake Norman Regional Medical Center in Mooresville with minor injuries.

The Highway Patrol has secured the scene. The F.A.A. will conduct an investigation.
