Pedestrian Struck & Killed Thursday Evening in Lenoir

A motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on March 14 in Lenoir has claimed the life of a Lenoir man. The deceased is 35-year-old Deshon Alfred Oneil Chester. The accident happened just before 8:15 Thursday evening on the 500 block of Wilkesboro Boulevard, just east of Hibriten.

The initial investigation into the crash indicates that Mr. Chester was attempting to cross Wilkesboro Boulevard when he stopped in the center turn lane. A white 1996 Ford S.U.V. driven by a 73-year-old Lenoir man entered the center turn lane from the westbound lanes of Wilkesboro Boulevard. The driver did not see Mr. Chester standing in the turn lane, which led to a collision.

As a result of the initial impact, Mr. Chester came to rest in the eastbound lanes of Wilkesboro Boulevard. At that time, the driver of an eastbound 2023 Toyota S.U.V., a 21-year-old Lenoir woman, was unable to avoid striking Mr. Chester. Mr. Chester passed away at the scene. At this time, Investigators believe that no impairment or other extenuating circumstances contributed to the accident.

Lenoir Police, the Lenoir Fire Department, and Caldwell County Emergency Services all responded to the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
