Pedestrian Struck And Killed Saturday
A Lincoln County man was killed following a crash over the weekend. The deceased is 82-year-old Charles Preston Long of Lincolnton. On Saturday (February 4) at approximately 6:15 p.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to N.C. 27 near Asbury Church Road in Lincoln County. A 2008 Nissan Rogue was traveling west on N.C. 27, struck a pedestrian walking in the roadway, and then struck a 2008 GMC Sierra in the roadway.
The pedestrian, Charles Preston Long, was critically injured and transported by medical helicopter to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, where he succumbed to his injuries the following day. The driver of the Nissan, an Iron Station resident, was not injured.
The initial investigation does not indicate impairment to be a contributing factor. Charges are pending upon completion of the ongoing investigation and consultation with the Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office. N.C. 27 was closed in the area for approximately two hours during the on-scene investigation.
