Pair of Mountaineers Compete at Track and Field Championships
App State senior Jada Branch and incoming freshman Matthew Gray capped the outdoor season at the 2023 Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships and USATF U20 Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. on July 6-9.
In his debut in the Black and Gold, Gray finished sixth overall in the men’s U20 pole vault on Saturday with a clearance of 5.10m (16′ 8.75″), which places him fourth in the App State all-time list. Texas A&M’s Jack Mann won the competition with a clearance of 5.30m (17′ 4.5″).
Branch, who competed in the women’s elite triple jump on Thursday, finished tenth overall with a leap of 12.80m (42′ 0″). Nike’s Tori Franklin won the event with a season best of 14.44m (47′ 4.5″). Branch finishes the outdoor season, as well as her App State career, ranked third in the outdoor triple jump with a mark of 13.13m (43′ 1″) and third in the indoor triple jump with a mark of 12.85m (42′ 2″).
With competition at the 2023 Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships and USATF U20 Outdoor Championships, the Mountaineers have closed out competition for the 2023 outdoor track and field season.
