Open House Scheduled To Discuss Newton Comprehensive Plan

Newton citizens are invited to continue shaping the City’s upcoming comprehensive plan during a public open house from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. next Tuesday (August 29), at the Newton Fire Department Headquarters. Refreshments will be served.

“Blueprint Newton” is envisioned as a policy and guiding document that outlines a vision to inspire citizens and visitors by renewing a commitment to fostering strategic growth and maintaining Newton’s small-town character. The comprehensive plan, which is expected to be considered for adoption by Newton City Council in late 2023, will guide development in the City for the next 20 years.

At the open house, experts in urban planning, public infrastructure, placemaking and sustainability will introduce draft portions of Blueprint Newton that have been compiled based on citizen input gathered since the project was launched with a public open house in March. In addition to considering the hundreds of data points gathered at the March open house, staff and consultants have collaborated with the community during listening sessions, open-ended interviews, and through an online dashboard at www.newtonnc.gov/Blueprint.

The City of Newton encourages anyone interested in the community’s future to attend the open house next Tuesday. The evening will be loosely structured to allow attendees to drop by anytime between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. The Fire Department Headquarters address is 119 South Brady Avenue. The appointed steering committee will meet prior to the public open house.
