One woman was detained Tuesday (May 26) after Iredell County deputies responded to reports of suspicious behavior on Lippard Springs Circle in Statesville.

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated, 33-year-old Haley Melissa Saunders and another woman appeared to be under the influence and tried to quickly leave the area when patrol units arrived.

During the investigation, deputies noticed signs of impairment but reportedly did not smell alcohol, leading them to suspect narcotics use. A search of Saunders’ purse allegedly uncovered drug paraphernalia and containers holding a white crystal-like substance.

Additional narcotics and paraphernalia were later found nearby, and deputies said Saunders admitted the items belonged to her.

Saunders (pictured) was arrested and charged with felony possession of cocaine, felony possession of methamphetamine, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. She was taken to the Iredell County Detention Center and denied bond due to pending charges.
