One Woman Critically Injured in S.E. Hickory Shooting

Hickory Police are investigating a shooting yesterday (July 16) in which one person was critically injured.

Just before 6 p.m. Sunday, Hickory Police responded to the 800 block of 1st Street S.E. following a 9-1-1 call reporting that a female had been shot. Upon arrival, Officers found 26-year-old Daquesha Walton in an apartment suffering from a gunshot wound to her neck. Catawba County E.M.S. responded and transported Ms. Walton to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. At last report, she was listed in critical condition.

During the initial investigation, witnesses said a young black male with a handgun fired several rounds at subjects standing behind the apartment, striking Ms. Walton. The shooter fled the area on foot and has not been located.
