Hickory Police Officers responded to a four-vehicle traffic crash shortly after 8 o’clock this morning (July 7) near the intersection of 2nd Street N.E. and 13th Avenue N.E. near the Wendy’s restaurant in Viewmont.

The accident occurred as a Nissan Rogue collided with a Toyota Tundra, causing a chain reaction and damaging two other vehicles. The Nissan Rogue overturned. The driver of the Nissan sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to Atrium Heath Carolinas Medical Center. As of this afternoon, the driver was still listed in critical condition. No other injuries were reported.

Police say excessive speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding the accident should call Sergeant Cam Anderson at 828-328-5551.
