One Person Killed in Tuesday Crash in Lincoln County
One person has died following a single-vehicle accident yesterday (November 7) in Lincoln County. The deceased is 36-year-old Michael Aaron Williams of Cherryville.
At about 4 p.m. Tuesday, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to the accident on U.S. Highway 321 near N.C. Highway 27, near mile-marker 24. A 2006 Chevrolet Aveo was southbound on U.S. 321 at an excessive speed when the driver lost control. The vehicle went off the right side of the road, overturned several times, and came to rest on the driver’s side.
The driver, Michael Aaron Williams, was critically injured and was transported by medical helicopter to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Mr. Williams passed away today.
The preliminary investigation indicates reckless driving and excessive speed to be the contributing circumstances in the accident. During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was partially closed in the area for approximately two hours.
