One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Wilkes County Saturday afternoon (January 27). The deceased is 23-year-old Tyler David Williams of Millers Creek.
At about 2:20 p.m. Saturday, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to the crash scene on N.C. Highway 16 near Shingle Gap Road. A 2023 Yamaha motorcycle was southbound on Highway 16 when the driver, Tyler Williams, attempted to pass another southbound vehicle in a no-passing zone and collided with a 2022 Toyota Tacoma as it was turning left into a parking lot.
Mr. Williams was ejected from the motorcycle and passed away at the scene. The driver of the Toyota, a 44-year-old Millers Creek man, was transported by E.M.S. to Wilkes Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
Highway 16 was partially closed in the area for approximately one hour during the on-scene investigation. The initial investigation does not indicate impairment to be a contributing factor in the collision. No charges will be filed.
