One Dead in Saturday A.M. Crash in Alexander County [UPDATED 10:50 a.m.]

One person was killed in a crash early Saturday morning (April 23) in Alexander County. The deceased is 39-year-old Janett Perez Roman of Hiddenite.

The crash was reported at about 2:40 a.m. Saturday on Highway 16 South, near the intersection with County Home Road, south of Taylorsville.

The accident occurred as a 2005 Nissan Titan traveling north on Highway 16 ran off the road to the right, overcorrected, ran off the roadway to the right again, and ran into a ditch, causing the vehicle to overturn several times. The driver, Janett Perez Roman, was ejected and passed away as the result of her injures.

Ms. Roman was not restrained by a seatbelt. The initial investigation suggests that a contributing factor in the crash was reckless driving. There were no other occupants in the vehicle. No one else was injured.

The North Carolina Highway State Patrol is the investigating agency.
