Officer-Involved Shooting in Lenoir Today

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is conducting an investigation into a Lenoir Police Department officer-involved shooting that occurred on the 2100 block of Morganton Boulevard this afternoon.

At about 12:40 today, Lenoir Police took a 9-1-1 call concerning an armed subject on Morganton Boulevard. Two undercover Officers and one uniformed patrol Officer arrived on the scene and attempted to engage the armed subject. During the course of the event, the responding Officers interpreted the suspect’s actions as an imminent threat and discharged their firearms, striking the suspect.

Officers immediately administered first aid. The man was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte with life-threatening injuries. The suspect’s gun was recovered on the scene. One of the undercover Officers was grazed by gunfire during the incident. The Officer was transported to Caldwell Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and has since been released.

Investigators learned that the suspect had stolen a vehicle approximately an hour earlier from a parking lot on the 1900 block of Harper Avenue. No information has been released regarding the identities of the suspect or the Officers involved. The S.B.I. is the leading the investigation.
