North Carolina Receives $13.2 Million For AmeriCorps Service Programs
RALEIGH, N.C. (WHKY) — North Carolina has received more than $13.2 million in federal AmeriCorps funding to support service programs across the state.
VolunteerNC announced the award Tuesday. State officials said the funding will support more than 600 AmeriCorps volunteers addressing needs in education, health care, disaster recovery, food security, environmental restoration and community development.
Planned work includes tutoring and mentoring students, helping underserved communities access medical care, supporting career exploration, restoring the environment and strengthening local governments and nonprofit organizations.
VolunteerNC says more than 600 AmeriCorps North Carolina volunteers serve annually in 89 counties. Participants also receive training and career experience through their service.
