RALEIGH, N.C. (WHKY) — Food banks across North Carolina are beginning to receive nearly three million eggs through an antitrust settlement announced by Attorney General Jeff Jackson.

Jackson joined food-bank leaders Tuesday for the first in a series of deliveries that will distribute eggs to organizations serving families across the state.

The Attorney General’s Office says the food is being provided through a settlement resolving allegations of price fixing in the egg industry.

State officials say the nearly three million eggs will provide direct assistance to families struggling with food costs while also holding companies accountable for alleged anti-competitive conduct.

Additional shipments are expected to reach food banks across North Carolina as the settlement is carried out.
