North Carolina AG Warns Of Scam Targeting Domestic-Violence Victims
RALEIGH, N.C. (WHKY) — North Carolina Attorney General Jeff Jackson is warning domestic-violence victims about a scam in which callers pose as law-enforcement officers or court officials and demand money.
The North Carolina Department of Justice says scammers may contact victims shortly after an arrest, hearing or court date and use details from public investigative or court records to make the call sound legitimate.
Officials say victims should not send money based on an unsolicited call. Anyone receiving such a demand should independently contact the law-enforcement agency or court using a verified phone number.
