Non-Profit Kids’ Magazine Delivered to Thousands of Local Students

“Foothills Kids Magazine” was delivered to thousands of public school students in grades 3-5 across Catawba and Caldwell counties this month (March 2022). “Foothills Kids Magazine” is a non-profit magazine that provides free educational content to western North Carolina schools.

Previously published as a supplement to publisher Carmen Eckard’s “Foothills Digest,” “Foothills Kids” became a tax-exempt operation in 2020. Its mission is to provide co-curricular, local-focused content for schools and students and to “enrich and promote the educational development of children and instill pride in the communities of western North Carolina.”

The content of Foothills Kids Magazine, including local photography, non-fiction stories written about local topics, and co-curricular activities students can do together or with their families, is created by Ms. Eckard, who is the magazine’s Chief Creative Editor. The Executive Director is Aaron Kohrs.

Dozens of local businesses, including Corning Optical Communications, Pepsi Bottling Company, Modern Nissan of Hickory, Sabrina Cook C.P.A., Steve White Motors, Allegra Printing, and Roseann Flowers (Hickory Real Estate Group), provided support for the educational material.

“Foothills Kids Magazine” seeks volunteers of all ages to support its mission. Interested parties should contact Ms. Eckard at
