No Injuries Following HazMat Spill in Long View

The Long View Fire Department and Long View Police Department shut down roads today (February 21) in the vicinity of 30th Street Place N.W. between 1st Avenue and 2nd Avenue N.W. as the result of a hazardous materials spill.

According to Long View Town Clerk Heather Minor, the spill occurred around 10 a.m. today at Maple Springs Laundry on 30th Street Place N.W. The leaked substance was hydrogen peroxide, which came from a tank that was being filled by a tanker truck at the time of the incident.

The spill was contained and the scene was cleared at approximately noon today. According to the Town of Long View, no injuries were reported, there was no threat to public safety, and the water is safe to drink.

In addition to Long View Fire & Police, the Hickory Fire Department, the Catawba County Hazmat team, and various other agencies were on the scene.
