NEWTON, N.C. (WHKY) – A Newton man is facing a charge related to failing to report a new address as required for a registered sex offender. 46-year-old Shalaby Alim Haqq, of Stove Drive in Newton, was arrested Wednesday (September 23) by Newton Police Officers. He’s charged with failure to report a new address as a sex offender.

Haqq is a sex offender as a result of a conviction in July, 2000 in Catawba County for indecent liberties with a minor. Following the arrest, he was incarcerated in the Catawba County Detention Facility without bond. A Wednesday District Court date was scheduled.
