Two Newton residents were arrested this week on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges following investigations by the Conover Police Department. Both arrests were made Wednesday (May 20).

According to arrest records, 54-year-old Chad Everett Wright of East 11th Street in Newton was taken into custody. Wright is charged with felony obstructing justice, possession of methamphetamine, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, felony probation violation, and failure to appear on a charge of non-support of a child.

Bond for Wright included $15,000 secured on the methamphetamine charge along with additional $2,500 bonds connected to the failure to appear and drug paraphernalia charges. He is scheduled to appear in Newton District Court on May 28 and June 8, with a Newton Superior Court date set for June 18.

Also arrested was 27-year-old Melanie Nicole Hunt of North Ervin Avenue in Newton. Hunt was charged with felony obstructing justice, possession of methamphetamine, felony larceny of a motor vehicle, felony larceny, misdemeanor probation violation, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Hunt received a $25,000 secured bond in connection with the motor vehicle larceny charge. She was scheduled to appear in Newton District Court on May 21, with a Newton Superior Court appearance set for July 23.
