NEWTON, N.C. (WHKY) — A Newton man is facing multiple felony drug charges following his confinement in the Catawba County Detention Facility.

According to Catawba County jail records, 41-year-old Demario Deonta Stewart was taken into custody today, September 8. He is charged with trafficking fentanyl, trafficking cocaine, possession of a controlled substance on prison or jail premises, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting a public officer.

Jail records did not list an arresting agency or bond amount. Stewart was scheduled to appear today in Catawba County Superior Court. The charges are allegations, and Stewart is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
