NEWTON, N.C. (WHKY) – 46-year-old Shalaby Alim Haqq of Stove Drive in Newton was arrested Monday (July 27) by Catawba County Sheriff’s Officers. He’s charged with felony failure to register as a sex offender and second-degree trespass. Haqq is on the sex offender registry as a result of a conviction in 2000 in Catawba County for indecent liberties with a minor. Haqq was incarcerated in the Catawba County Detention Facility without bond. A Tuesday (July 28) District Court date was scheduled.
