33-year-old Joe Clifford Tipps, Jr. of Newton was arrested Tuesday (June 20) by Catawba County Sheriff’s Officers. He was charged with felony counts of being an habitual felon, breaking & entering with intent to terrorize or injure, and possession of a firearm by a felon.

According to the North Carolina Department Of Adult Correction Offender Public Information website, Tipps is a felon as a result of convictions dating back to 2007 in Catawba and Burke Counties. His most recent conviction was in July, 2021 in Burke County on a felony count of possession of schedule II controlled substance.

Following Tuesday’s arrest, Tipps was jailed in the Catawba County Detention Facility without bond. A Superior Court appearance is scheduled next Monday (June 26).
