34-year-old James Michael Chambers of North Davis Avenue in Newton has been arrested by Newton Police on charges of assault on an individual with a disability, assault on a female, resisting a public officer, and possession of marijuana paraphernalia. He was also charged with a probation violation. Chambers is on probation as he serves an 18-month suspended sentence following an August 2021 conviction in Catawba County for child abuse.

Chambers was jailed yesterday (September 7) in the Catawba County Detention Facility under an $8,000 bond. A District Court appearance was scheduled today in Newton with another court date coming up Monday on the probation violation.
