Newton Man Arrested in Hickory on Felony Assault & Firearms Charges

19-year-old Dionte Jashea Murph of Burnley Road in Newton was arrested by Hickory Police Wednesday (June 1) on felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling or moving vehicle, along with misdemeanor counts of injury to personal property.

Murph was taken into custody without incident at about 9 p.m. Wednesday at a residential address on 31st Avenue N.W. in Hickory. He was placed in the Catawba County Detention Facility under a $75,000 secured bond with a first appearance in District Court scheduled yesterday. He is no longer listed as an inmate in Catawba County. Murph will next appear in court on June 16 in Newton.
