Newton, Hickory Residents Among Drug Suspects Arrested In Recent Roundup

19 suspects were arrested in a recent roundup of alleged drug offenders in Iredell County. According to a news release from the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, residents of Newton and Hickory were among those charged. All nineteen suspects were charged with directly selling illegal drugs to an undercover investigator. Five had been arrested before for similar charges and are on active probation. One is a registered sex offender.

43-year-old Justin Gantt Edwards of Sportsman Drive in Newton was charged with two counts of felony possession with intent to sell or deliver schedule II controlled substance. His criminal history includes felony possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana along with misdemeanor and traffic charges. Edwards’ bond was set at $60,000 secured.

26-year-old Justice Elijah Batts of 6th Street SE in Hickory was charged with felony possession with intent to sell or deliver schedule IV controlled substance. Batts is on probation for previous drug charges and his criminal history includes a charge of felony possession with intent to sell or deliver heroin. His bond was set at $1,000 secured.

Of the additional 17 suspects charged, ten are from Statesville, three are from Mooresville, one is from Olin, one is from Concord, one is from Mocksville, and one is from Cleveland, N.C. The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office says there will be more drug arrests as the agency continues their investigation.
