New Catawba County Chief Financial Officer Announced

Catawba County Manager Mary Furtado has named Mary Morrison Chief Financial Officer (C.F.O.) for the county.

Ms. Morrison steps into the role after serving as the County’s Interim C.F.O. since May of last year. During that time, she oversaw the county’s Fiscal Year 2022 audit and facilitated the county’s most recent debt issuance of $43-million, recommending a debt restructuring that resulted in $3.5-million in savings.

As C.F.O., Ms. Morrison will continue to manage the county’s investment portfolio, facilitate debt issuance for capital projects such as schools, and supervise the audit and compliance function. She’ll also provide day-to-day supervision of the Catawba County Finance department.

Previously, Ms. Morrison served as I.T. Administrator for Catawba County Technology and she worked in the financial and legal fields. She joined the county in 2004 as Business Manager for Catawba County Social Services’ Family N.E.T. program.

Ms. Morrison holds degrees from Appalachian State and Lenoir-Rhyne. She is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the North Carolina Government Finance Officers Association. She and her husband live in Newton and have two grown children.
