NC 18 south of Morganton was blocked Monday night (June 8) after a serious motor vehicle accident occurred near Port Street. Salem Fire Rescue issued a news release regarding the incident.

According to reports from the scene, the crash involved multiple vehicles and impacted nearby residences. Several utility poles were also knocked down, creating a hazardous situation and forcing the closure of the highway.

The road was closed for several hours as emergency crews, utility workers, and investigators respond to the incident and worked to clear the area.
