N.C. Approaches Half a Million Cases of COVID-19

Three COVID-19-associated deaths were reported yesterday (December 20) by Catawba County Public Health, increasing the overall total to 139. 133 new cases of the coronavirus were reported Sunday, increasing Catawba County’s total to 10,164. There are 96 people hospitalized.

124 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed Saturday (December 19) in Caldwell County, raising the overall total to 5,028 with 57 deaths. There are 48 Caldwell County residents hospitalized with the coronavirus.

The total in Burke County is up to 5,513 cases, 88 more than the last update from the county. There have been 75 virus-related deaths. 19 people are currently hospitalized in Burke.

Through Sunday, there have been 2,273 total cases of COVID-19 in Alexander County, an increase of 47 from Saturday. There have been 26 coronavirus-related deaths in Alexander County.

Statewide, 6,900 new cases were reported Sunday for a total of 479,168. 6,224 people have died in North Carolina since the start of the pandemic.
