IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. (WHKY) — Families visiting Jennings Park in Statesville will soon have a new way to combine reading, exercise and music.

The Iredell County Public Library has been awarded a grant from the North Carolina Partnership for Children to install an interactive Musical StoryWalk at Jennings Park.

The StoryWalk will feature 30 display stations positioned along the park’s paved walking trail, allowing children and families to read an entire picture book one page at a time as they walk.

In addition to the story displays, the project will include nine outdoor percussion instruments placed throughout the trail, encouraging children to stop, play music and interact with the experience.

Library officials say the StoryWalk is designed for children up to age 11 and will be fully accessible for children with physical and developmental disabilities. The featured book will be changed every three months to encourage repeat visits.

Installation is expected to be completed this fall.
