37-year-old Kenneth Lee Potter and 58-year-old Billy Joe Griffey, both of South Fork Avenue in Hickory, along with 49-year-old Robert Eric Hill of Burke Memorial Park Road in Valdese, have all been arrested by authorities in Burke County on a variety of felony charges. Potter faces felony counts of breaking & entering and larceny of a motor vehicle. Griffey and Hill were each charged with felony possession of a firearm by a felon. Hill was also charged with a misdemeanor probation violation. A fourth suspect, a female from Connelly Springs, was charged with a misdemeanor probation violation.

Last Friday (November 18), the N.C. Department of Public Safety’s Special Operations and Probation & Parole units, along with Burke County’s Criminal Investigations Division, Community Policing Division, and Patrol Division, conducted a series of joint operations in an attempt to deter criminal activity and identify repeat offenders within the county. During the course of the operation, several arrests were made for possession of narcotics (including methamphetamine) and multiple firearms were recovered.

Interviews conducted following the arrests resulted in the recovery of stolen property. Additional cases currently under investigation throughout Burke County were solved.

Following the arrests, Potter’s bond was set at $25,000, secured, while Griffey was given a $10,000 secured bond and Hill was held under a $12,500 secured bond. First appearances in District Court were scheduled yesterday (November 21) in Morganton. Potter and Griffey will next appear in court on December 12. Hill has another court date coming up on December 5.

The investigation is ongoing with more charges expected.
