Weather Announcements: Most Hickory Metro Schools Operating Remotely Today, Catawba Schools Canceled (Updated 7:25 a.m., 1/8/21)

Due to wintry weather in the Hickory Metro, in the Catawba County Schools, there will be no school, in-person or virtual, today (January 8) and it will be an Optional Teacher Workday. Quest is also canceled. The Hickory Public Schools will have a remote learning day. Newton-Conover Schools will still operate as planned with a remote learning day for Students, Pre-K will be closed. Kid Connection was still scheduled to open at 9:00 a.m. at North Newton.

The Caldwell County Schools will operatedon a remote learning day. Burke County Public Schools daycares will be closed today. Today remains a remote instructional day for all students and instructional staff under Plan C/remote learning. For staff scheduled to report to buildings in person, follow the inclement weather procedures and contact your department director if you have questions. Alexander County Schools will operate with a remote instructional day. Students and staff will not report to the school buildings but will work remotely from home.

District Court and Small Claims Courts are closed due to inclement weather in Burke, Caldwell and Catawba counties. Catawba County Government offices, parks and libraries will open at 10 a.m. today. The Claremont Library will open at its usual time, 12 p.m. If needed, additional updates will be posted on the Catawba County website (www.catawbacountync.gov) as conditions are evaluated. Alexander County Government offices will open at 12:00 p.m., if conditions allow. Rocky Face Park is also scheduled to open at 12:00. The landfill and convenience sites will operate on a regular schedule.
