34-year-old Cynthia Dawn Rice of U.S. 64 in Morganton was arrested last Friday (April 7) by Morganton Public Safety Officers. She’s charged on a felony warrant as a fugitive from another state. In addition, Rice is charged with felony counts of possession of schedule II controlled substance (methamphetamine) and altering, destroying, or stealing evidence of criminal conduct along with a misdemeanor count of simple possession of schedule III controlled substance.

Shortly before 8 a.m. Friday Public Safety Officers responded to a business parking lot on Burkemont Avenue in Morganton to investigate a suspicious vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, Cynthia Rice, was wanted on a warrant from South Carolina for probation violation. She was arrested at the scene. Police reports show that officers seized 4.5 grams of meth and 3.5 grams of additional controlled substances.

Rice was brought to the Burke County Jail where she was confined under $105,000 secured bond. She remained in jail as of earlier today (April 11). A District Court appearance was scheduled Monday (April 10) in Morganton.
