MORGANTON, N.C. (WHKY) — Morganton residents can help shape the city’s future growth during a public workshop today.

The city is developing a new Unified Development Ordinance, commonly known as a UDO. The document will combine and update Morganton’s zoning, subdivision and other development regulations.

The UDO will guide how property is used and developed throughout the city. It will address issues including parking, landscaping, signs, building design, lot sizes and the types of development allowed in different areas.

City officials say community feedback will play an important role in making the regulations clearer, more consistent and easier for residents, property owners and developers to understand.

The city’s second public workshop will be held from 5–7 p.m. today at Morganton City Hall, 305 East Union Street. Residents may drop in at any time during the workshop to review information and share their opinions.

The project was recommended as part of the Imagine Morganton 2040 Comprehensive Plan.
