Morganton Residents Charged With Felony Heroin Trafficking
34-year-old Michael Andrew Conley of Roberts Road and 34-year-old Kayla Marie Whisnant of Carbon City Road, both from Morganton, were arrested Tuesday (October 31) by Morganton Public Safety Officers. Conley is charged with felony counts of trafficking heroin, possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver schedule II controlled substance (methamphetamine), and possession of a firearm by a felon. He’s also charged with misdemeanor possession of stolen goods or property. Whisnant is charged with felony trafficking heroin.
On Tuesday, Morganton Public Safety Narcotics Officers with assistance from Burke County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics officers, executed a search warrant at an address on Carbon City Road. Conley and Whisnant both had outstanding warrants for offenses including drug trafficking. The two suspects were arrested at the scene without incident. During a search of the home, both fentanyl and methamphetamine were found.
Both suspects were placed in the Burke County Jail. Conley was incarcerated under $90,000 secured bond, Whisnant received a secured bond of $7,500. They both remained in jail as of earlier today (November 1). Both suspects are scheduled to appear in District Court Thursday (November 2). Both suspects had pending charges against them in Burke County prior to Tuesday’s arrest. Conley faces a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia with a November 16 District Court date scheduled. Whisnant has a November 30 District Court date on misdemeanor and traffic charges. The investigation remains open and more charges may be pending.
