The City of Morganton Electric Department is asking citizens to keep an eye out for fire ants near any city electrical equipment such as utility poles or transformer boxes. According to a news release from the City of Morganton, believe it or not, fire ants are known to eat the rubber insulation in and around electrical equipment and this could possibly cause power outages. If you see any fire ant hills near any city electrical equipment, you are asked to call 828-438-5277.
